2022 Sydney North SSA Championships

Sydney North Secondary School Sports Association (SSA) Athletics Championships – SOPAC; 25-26 July 2022.

Andres represented the Ku-ring-gai Zone and Chatswood High School in the 14yo Boys 100m sprint; 200m sprint; 100m hurdles; 4x100m relay, Long Jump and 12-15yo 200m hurdles.

Results: 2nd 100m sprint; 2nd 200m sprint; 1st 100m hurdles; 2nd 200m hurdles; 2nd 4x100m relay.

Andres pulled out of the long jump due to concerns about a groin injury.

14yo Boys 100m hurdles 84cm

Andres ran a really good race and set a (wind legal?) PB of 14.40, which was only 0.1 off the meet record which has stood for 31 years, winning by nearly 3 seconds. He had a painful groin injury at training the previous day and so wasn’t even sure he would be fit to compete. He did a careful (but still quite painful) warmup and was able to successfully run.

Straight final14.40 (NWI); PB14.40

14yo Boys 100m sprint

Andres ran a really good race, only just missing a PB by a few hundredths of a second. He came 2nd and so qualifies to compete at the CHS Championships.

14yo Boys 4x100m relay

Once again, the boys’ training really showed through with an excellent run, handing Andres the baton in 3rd place who was then able to storm home to get 2nd place – around 0.8 off the win. This qualifies them to compete at the CHS Championships.

Timed final49.06 (NWI)2nd

14yo Boys 200m sprint

Still concerned about the groin injury from training, Andres ran a conservative race, not pushing too hard. He finished a close 2nd, a fair bit slower than his PB but enough to qualify to compete at the CHS Championships.

Timed final24.42 (NWI)2nd

12-15yo Boys 200m hurdles 76cm

Being a year younger than a few of the boys in the race, Andres still managed to run a decent time and take 2nd place, thus qualifying to run at the CHS Championships. He was most concerned about this race with his groin injury – circular hurdles can be quite tough, but he managed it well and was satisfied with the result.

Timed final28.92 (NWI)2nd
