- 100m hurdles
- 200m hurdles
Australian Track & Field Championships Qualification
Any athlete who places in the top 3 in their event at NSW All Schools or the NSW Athletics Championships, qualifies to represent NSW at the Australian Track & Field Championships in Brisbane next April. Similarly, any athlete running a qualifying time at a permit meet also qualifies.
As such, Andres has qualified to compete in the following events both based on place and on time:
- 100m hurdles
- 200m hurdles
Boys 14yo 100m sprint
Andres ran a respectable time into a strong head wind in his heat to qualify 6th fastest for the final. He ran really well in the final despite the blustery conditions, but was only able to get 5th place.
His time in the final was only 5 hundredths of a second slower than the qualifying time required to compete at the Australian Track & Field Championships in Brisbane next April – so he is confident of achieving that in coming months.
Heat | 11.84 (-2.1) | 6th fastest qualifier |
Final | 11.79 (-0.9) | 5th place |
Boys 14yo 400m sprint
In Andres’s first ever competitive 400m race, he ran a relaxed race and finished 17th fastest overall. His intention is to use 400m runs as training for improving his 200m times and isn’t aiming to necessarily be competitive at this distance.
Heat | 58.15 | 17th place |
Boys 14yo 100m hurdles (84cm)
Andres ran a huge PB and was very happy with his race, but was outclassed on the day and relegated to 2nd place.
The 2nd place qualifies him to compete at the Australian All Schools Championships in Adelaide this December; while both the 2nd place and the time run, qualify him to compete at the Australian Track & Field Championships in Brisbane next April.

Straight final | 13.87 (+0.7); PB | Silver medal |
Boys 14yo long jump
Andres’s first ever state-level long jump competition. Given he hasn’t trained for long jump and has had basically no coaching ever, he was fairly pleased to make the final 8 and then come 4th overall, despite being a bit short of his best ever distance.
5.63m (-0.3); 5.38m (+1.7); 5.50m (-0.2); 5.28m (-0.2) | 4th place |
Boys 14yo 200m sprint
Andres was very happy with his run in the heat, running a wind-legal PB to qualify 6th fastest for the final. His final run was only slightly slower and saw him finish 7th overall.
His time in the heat was only 0.16 off the qualifying time required to compete at the Australian Track & Field Championships in Brisbane next April – so he is confident of achieving that in coming months.
Heat | 23.80 (+1.0) | 6th fastest qualifier |
Final | 23.89 (+1.1) | 7th place |
Boys 200m hurdles (76cm)
Andres ran a good PB, and only his slight stumble at the last hurdle saw him lose some momentum to place 2nd.
The 2nd place qualifies him to compete at the Australian All Schools Championships in Adelaide this December; while both the 2nd place and the time run, qualify him to compete at the Australian Track & Field Championships in Brisbane next April.
Timed final | 28.01 (+0.7); PB | Silver medal |
