Each year, the best U13 athletes from each state are selected to compete at the Australian Little Athletics Championships. This year, the event was to be held in Melbourne at the end of April, but was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. The team travels together without parents, so if an outbreak forced them into quarantine for up to 2 weeks, this would not be an ideal situation for a bunch of 12 year old kids!
Instead, Little Athletics Australia ran a virtual event – the Coles Little Athletics National Challenge. Each state nominated their team as they normally would – and then based on performances of those athletes at each of the state championships – rankings for each event were published.
Andres was selected for the 80m hurdles and 200m hurdles.
