Ku-ring-gai Secondary School Sports Association (SSA) Zone Athletics Championships – SOPAC; 16 June 2021.
Andres represented Chatswood High School in the 13yo Boys 90m hurdles, 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and long jump.
Results: 1st in 90m hurdles (new zone record); 1st in 100m; 1st in 200m; 1st in 4x100m relay; 2nd in long jump.
13yo Boys 90m hurdles 76cm
Andres didn’t manage to match his previous times from nationals in April, but still managed to break the zone record of 13.90 set in 1983! He wasn’t that happy with his run (despite winning by a huge margin) – was hoping to go a lot faster, but to be fair, he has only done a couple of training sessions since nationals in April.
Straight final | 13.80 (zone record) | 1st |
13yo Boys 100m
Andres surprised himself to run a new PB of 12.25 in his timed final and won easily.
Timed final | 12.25 (PB) | 1st |
13yo Boys 200m
Andres ran a good 200m, slightly slower than his best time – but still easily fast enough to win overall.
Timed final | 25.80 | 1st |
13yo Boys 4x100m Relay
In the time since they named the relay team after the school carnival in May, Andres has taken it upon himself to coach the 13 boys in baton passing – even buying his own set of batons to use for training.
Their hard work paid off with a dominant win in the relay – Andres was last runner and the boys got him the baton already leading, so he was never challenged and easily pulled away from the field to win by a good margin.
Straight final | 52.72 (TBC) | 1st |
13yo Boys Long Jump
Andres competed in the long jump as just a fun event – not taking it especially seriously, but still managed to finish 2nd with a decent jump of 4.76m – which is quite a bit shorter than his PB.
