Little Athletics NSW 2018-19 Northern Metropolitan Zone Championships (Region 5) – Barton Park, Parramatta; 8-9 Dec 2018
Andres represented Northern Suburbs Little Athletics Centre in the 60m hurdles, 100m sprint, 200m sprint and long jump in the U11 age group.
Andres jumped from U9 to U11 this season due to changes to age groups by Little Athletics Australia – with the age cutoff now being the calendar year rather than the start of the season. So while Andres was previously one of the oldest in his age group – being born in October, from the 2018-19 season he is now one of the youngest.
Results: 11th in 60m hurdles (see notes below), 6th in 100m, 7th in 200m, 7th in long jump.
U11 Boys 60m hurdles 60cm
Andres got a great start in the 60m hurdles heat and was clearly in front by the 2nd hurdle but clipped the hurdle which didn’t fall like it was supposed to so he face planted into the 3rd hurdle. He got up and finished but his 11th fastest time was not good enough to qualify for the final. He wasn’t the slowest runner, despite the fall!
The fall was very disappointing given how hard he had trained in the leadup to zone – to fall in the first event and so miss out on seeing just how fast he could go at Regionals and State.
